Release Date: 1/1/1998
Golden Qi-Pao™ Barbie® doll was designed to commemorate the one year anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China. The color gold is regarded as a color of good luck, wealth, and prosperity in Chinese culture and Barbie® doll embodies them all in this sophisticated and elegant Chinese formal dress. Although the design is simple, elegance is reflected in the use of different fabrics and textures. A layer of lace appliques covers a solid golden background. Tiny rhinestones and golden rosettes are applied to the dress giving it a contemporary look. Barbie® needs only to add "crystal" earring droplets, a faux jade bracelet and shoes. The final touch, an elegant faux jade butterfly that signifies beauty, completes her ensemble. Barbie® wears her dark hair in an updated version of the traditional chignon.
Celebrating the First Anniversary of Hong Kong's Reunification with China in 1998, the Golden Qui Pao Barbie should not be mistaken for the Spiegel doll of the same name. This limited edition set is in a large, heavy duty and magnificent golden box which opens with a front flap to reveal the doll in a full length sheath which combines the "rich multilayering of intricate golden roses sewn onto a lace applique" over golden satin. Barbie has on bright gold heels, a "jade" butterfly at the neck of her dress, a "jade" and gold bracelet, and "jade"/"crystal"/gold drop earrings. Golden Qi-Pao Hong Kong Anniversary Set comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, a Commemorative Gold Coin in a black Pouch, and the Qi-Pao Story Booklet.
New, NRFB, Shelfwear on the box, both sides of the shoe dropped from the feet as the plastic straps that holds the shoes deteriorated, what you see is what you get.
